Chapter 027: Penance (Vizhiyappan's Translation)

0261.  உற்றநோய் நோன்றல் உயிர்க்குறுகண் செய்யாமை
           அற்றே தவத்திற் குரு

           Bearing the distress & not distressing others,
           are factors of penance

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: The basics - such as bearing the distress happened to
           oneself and not making distress to other lives - are the factors of penance.

           The attitudes - such as accepting the mistakes we have committed and not
           exaggerating the mistakes of others - are the theories of humane.

0262.  தவமும் தவமுடையார்க்கு ஆகும் அவம்அதனை
           அஃதிலார் மேற்கொள் வது

           Penance is possible only for ethical people;
           practice by rest is useless

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: Penance is possible only for those who have mental
           strength to follow ethics; it is useless if the penance is practiced by the unethical
           people.

           Social-service is achieved only by those who knew the discipline of defending the
           self; it is profitless if social-service is done by those do not realize self.

0263.  துறந்தார்க்குத் துப்புரவு வேண்டி மறந்தார்கொல் 
           மற்றை யவர்கள் தவம்

           Do others forgot penance, to feed
           those who have abdicated?

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: Do the rest of people forgot to practice penance, in
           order to feed and help those who have abdicated the unethical deeds and practicing
           penance?

           Do the public avoided to engage themselves in politics, in order to extend helping
           hands to those who have lost the self-life and engaged in politics?

0264.  ஒன்னார்த் தெறலும் உவந்தாரை ஆக்கலும்
           எண்ணின் தவத்தான் வரும்

           Defeating the adversaries & raising the neighbors,
           can be executed by penance

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: If there is an intention to defeat the adversaries and to
           raise the neighbors, it can be executed with the ability of practicing penance.

           If there is an initiative to destroy the evil deeds and to increase the good deeds, it
           could be achieved  with the thoughts those trigger search.

0265.  வேண்டிய வேண்டியாங் கெய்தலால் செய்தவம்
           ஈண்டு முயலப் படும்

           Since demands could be obtained as demanded,
           doable penance be attempted sooner

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: The doable acts of penance should be attempted to do,
           as soon as possible, since it leads to obtain the demanded things in a demanded
           manner.

           The maintainable relations of mother should be initiated to maintain, at the earliest,
           as it leads to feel the emotions in an emotional way.

0266.  தவஞ்செய்வார் தங்கருமஞ் செய்வார்மற் றல்லார்
           அவஞ்செய்வார் ஆசையுட் பட்டு

           Those do penance do birth duty; rest become
           greedy & do vain activity

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: Those who do the penance dependent actions, are the
           ones who do the birth duty; the rest become addicted to desire and do vain activities.

           The parties which give the truth dependent promises, are the ones which realized
           the democracy; the rest are addicted to designation and do corruptions.

0267.  சுடச்சுடரும் பொன்போல் ஒளிவிடும் துன்பஞ்
           சுடச்சுட நோற்கிற் பவர்க்கு

           Rational of those do penance, enhances on hardships,
           as gold glitters on heating

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: Gold shines as better as continuous heating on fire!
           Similarly, the rational of those who practice penance, gets enhanced based on the
           amount of hardships.

           Humane develops as good as continuous involvement in ethical deeds! Comparably,
           the clarity of those who think about life, gets stronger based on the ability of thinking.

0268.  தன்னுயிர் தான்அறப் பெற்றானை ஏனைய
           மன்னுயி ரெல்லாந் தொழும்

           Other lives worship those have renounced
           selfishness & conceit by penance

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: Rest of the lives on earth will worship those, who have
           renounced both the selfishness and conceit, by practicing the penance.

           The other leads in the society will respect those, who have avoided the growths of
           own-family and own-party, by practicing universality.

0269.  கூற்றம் குதித்தலும் கைகூடும் நோற்றலின்
           ஆற்றல் தலைப்பட் டவர்க்கு

           Those have the power of penance
           can overcome even death

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: Even the miracle of overcoming the death is possible
           for those who have obtained the power by practicing the penance.

           Even the skill of conquering the lust becomes feasible to those who have the
           understanding resulted from realizing the self.

0270.  இலர்பல ராகிய காரணம் நோற்பார்
           சிலர்பலர் நோலா தவர்

           There are more unconfident people, since only few
           practice penance & many don't

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: People who do not have mental strength are more in
           numbers, because only few people are practicing the penance and many do not
           practice.

           Leaders who do not provide good reign are more in numbers, since only few are
           considering the public welfare and many do not consider.
