செல்வத்துள் எல்லாம் தலை
Listening is wealth among wealths; that wealth
is primary of all wealths
Vizhiyappan's Commentary: The wealth called knowledge that results from listening, is one
among the variety of wealths; that wealth is the primary of all wealths.
0413. செவியுணவிற் கேள்வி யுடையார் அவியுணவின்
ஆன்றாரோ டொப்பர் நிலத்து
Who has attention, i.e. food for ear, is alike
almighty having food from Yagna
Vizhiyappan's Commentary: On the earth, who has the attention that is food for ear; are like
the almighty who has food from things such as ghee poured in Yagna.

0414. கற்றில னாயினுங் கேட்க அஃதொருவற்கு
ஒற்கத்தின் ஊற்றாந் துணை
Even if uneducated, do listen; it will
be crutch when exhausted
Vizhiyappan's Commentary: Even if someone is uneducated, they should develop listening-
knowledge; that will support them like "crutch" during their exhaustion.

disciplined scholars, is like the crutch that is useful to stand firmly at the slippery place.

0416. எனைத்தானும் நல்லவை கேட்க அனைத்தானும்
ஆன்ற பெருமை தரும்
Listening as much good as possible,
return equivalently stable glory
Vizhiyappan's Commentary: We should listen as much good things as possible and develop
the rational; then the obtained stable glory will be up to the extent of that development.

Who listen and explore, won’t speak ignoramus
even with misinterpretation
Vizhiyappan's Commentary: Those who have obtained deep knowledge with the search of
listening; will not speak in an ignoramus way, even if they have misinterpreted understanding.
not criticize with selfish intention, even if the opponent parties have defect.

listening-knowledge that is food for the ear; but realize only the taste of mouth, either die or
live?
