Chapter 014: Possession of Decorum (Vizhiyappan's Translation)

0131.  ஒழுக்கம் விழுப்பந் தரலான் ஒழுக்கம்
           உயிரினும் ஓம்பப் படும்

           As decorum gives predominance, it should be
           considered greater than life

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: As the decorum gives an unique predominance, the
           decorum should be considered as greater than life; and it should be preserved.
(Likewise...)
           As the parents bestow a peerless sacrifice, the parents should be treated as better
           than nature; and they should be admired.

0132.  பரிந்தோம்பிக் காக்க ஒழுக்கம் தெரிந்தோம்பித்
           தேரினும் அஃதே துணை

           As discipline is ultimate strength, it should
           be preserved at any cost

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: As rational analysis of everything will prove that the
           discipline is the ultimate strength, discipline should be preserved at any cost.

           One can conquer everyone with courage, but humility is the philosophy of human;
           so, one should learn humility even by being submissive.

0133.  ஒழுக்கம் உடைமை குடிமை இழுக்கம்
           இழிந்த பிறப்பாய் விடும்

           Possessing discipline makes the people civilized;
           indiscipline make them uncivilized

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: Possessing discipline is the identity of civilized people;
           those who do not possess discipline will become uncivilized people.

           Teaching with integrity is the work-ethics of teacher; those who do not have integrity
           will become unqualified teacher.

0134.  மறப்பினும் ஓத்துக் கொளலாகும் பார்ப்பான்
           பிறப்பொழுக்கங் குன்றக் கெடும்

           "Enchantment reciters" can relearn their lessons;
            indiscipline will degrade them

            Vizhiyappan's Commentary: "Enchantment reciters" can relearn if they forget what
            they learnt; if they are indiscipline, they will be degraded from the highly civilized
            state.
(Likewise...)
            Human can rectify if there is any error in their acts; if they have faulty mind, they will
            be deteriorated from "Six Sense" animal.

0135.  அழுக்கா றுடையான்கண் ஆக்கம்போன்று இல்லை 
           ஒழுக்க மிலான்கண் உயர்வு

           As envious people can’t become great,
           indisciplined people don't grow

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: As the envious people cannot become the great, those
           who are not disciplined cannot grow higher.
(Likewise...)
           As the mentally distracted people cannot be focused, those who do not think good
           cannot sleep peacefully.

0136.  ஒழுக்கத்தின் ஒல்கார் உரவோர் இழுக்கத்தின்
           ஏதம் படுபாக் கறிந்து

           As indiscipline triggers offense, brave people
           will not quit discipline

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: Realizing that failing from discipline, will trigger offense;
           the brave people, will not quit discipline.
(Likewise...)
           Knowing that oblivion of future, will induce strain; the agile ants, will not fail to be
           prepared in advance.

0137.  ஒழுக்கத்தின் எய்துவர் மேன்மை இழுக்கத்தின் 
           எய்துவர் எய்தாப் பழி

           Discipline gives distinction; indiscipline gives blame
           that shouldn't be attained

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: One will obtain distinction by possessing discipline; but,
           being indiscipline gives the blame that should not be attained.
(Likewise...)
           Life will be successful when there is perseverance; but, life will face unexpected
           hurdles when there are no efforts.

0138.  நன்றிக்கு வித்தாகும் நல்லொழுக்கம் தீயொழுக்கம்
           என்றும் இடும்பை தரும்

           Decorum will seed goodness; indiscipline will
           always trigger hardships 

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: Decorum will become seed for goodness; on contrast,
           indiscipline will always lead to hardships.
(Likewise...)
           The wet-lands will be a factor for useful farming; contrarily, dry-lands will always
           grow useless things.

0139.  ஒழுக்க முடையவர்க்கு ஒல்லாவே தீய
           வழுக்கியும் வாயாற் சொலல்

           Who possess decorum could not speak
           devil words, even erroneously

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: It is impossible for the disciplined people with good
           conduct, even to erroneously speak devil words with others.

           It is unfeasible for the people with positive beliefs, even to dream to hurt their
           counterparts in the relationships.

0140.  உலகத்தோடு ஒட்ட ஒழுகல் பலகற்றும்
           கல்லார் அறிவிலா தார்

           Literates become illiterates if they fail
           to match the world

           Vizhiyappan's Commentary: Those who fail to travel along with the current trend of
           world are considered illiterates, despite the fact that they have learnt a lot.

           The relationships, which fail to debate only the current issues are concluded weaker,
           irrespective of the years of bonding they have.
